SIT ON TOP COURSE - JUNE 2013

posted 24 May 2012 15:19 by Dan Tolchard   [ updated 21 Apr 2013 17:43 by Susannah Relf ]

Please bring the new course to the attention of anyone you know who might benefit from it or by joining the club.

I feel it's important that the PZ canoe club has members that take part in all popular disciplines and if you check out the sea you'll realise how popular Sit on tops are!

It would be great to let these paddlers know that they're part of a big and generally pretty friendly community who understand the love of being on the water.

FEBRUARY DART WEEKEND

posted 28 Feb 2012 15:13 by Kate Gage   [ updated 28 Feb 2012 15:19 ]

I`d like to thank everyone that came on this Februarys Dart Trip for making it such a great weekend.

I had a great time, great paddling with great company.
Our first paddle on Saturday morning, after a full english breakie, started at the Country Park and then on down to Buckfastleigh. It was quite bump and scrap in places, but without a winter of rain, the river was thirsty! The weather stayed dry and after a few weirs later and some beautiful scenery we portaged next to a steam train that had just pulled up. Loaded the boats onto Steve’s truck and Grahams car and away we drove up to  Newbridge at the top of the Loop.
Quick lunch of a sandwich and we were ready for the next part of the river. The loop is always a great bit of the Dart to paddle and play on. Today with the water level being rather low it was going to be challenging, mainly to avoid rocks, and another rock, oh and another and so it went on. But a lot of fun and time to play and test your river paddling skills. Susannah, Ian, Kevin, Steve and myself were assisted along the way by Graham, Tom, John, Phil and Dan. A big thank you for their support and coaching throughout the weekend.
After a long day of paddling it was time to shower and hit the bar. Some of us went to play and explore the Park; the adventure playground took a few competitions between John, Ian, Phil and Susannah. I think John came out Champ!
I had a little sleep on the settee! then food, a ritzla game ( well played Tom - never thought you`d get Nora Batty!) and to finish a perfect day, Dan did his thing and entertained us with some tunes on guitar, accompanied by his sidekick the one and only Phil Mayo! so so funny!
A Group decision was made and the Loop was voted as the trip for day two on the water. With the sun shining it felt like a spring day, or as Susannah sung – I can see clearly now the rain has gone, I can see lots of obstacles in my way! It`s been a bright, bright sunshiny day………… oh so true, obstacles… there were lots. We had a great paddle though, and played lots. Steve especially was trying everything and was going for it at every weir. I think Phil made sure many people got wet, but Susannah got her own back in the end! It took about 3 hours to get back down to the Country park, some of us quite tired, but seeing happy faces makes organising a trip more than worthwhile.

Thank you again peeps, I had a really great weekend. Photos to come asap.

Next Dart Trip I`m planning for end of October this year.

Lots of love -  Kate x
